l’Atelier Sonoristique
Exactly 60 years have passed since the legendary band Warsztat Muzyczny was founded in 1963 by Zygmunt Krauze. The group’s goal was to organize concerts of avant-garde music. Four years later, in 1967, the band’s line-up was finally established, represented by: clarinetist Czesław Pałkowski, trombonist Edmund Borowiak, pianist Zygmunt Krauze and cellist Witold Gałązka. The times came when not only performers but also listeners began to feel the need to experience new sounds. An innovative solution was the exploration of the sound possibilities of musical instruments, defined by musicologist Józef Chomiński as the search for sonorist properties (Latin: sonorus – sounding). The repertoire included on this album focuses on composers who gave a clear impetus to the sonoristic tradition.
SEPIA ENSEMBLE was founded in 2012 at the Academy of Music in Poznań. The core of the ensemble consists of 11 solo musicians who share a special passion for performing the latest music. They perform in various configurations – from solo productions to large ensembles. The ensemble also tries to fill non-standard places with new music, while expanding acoustic sounds with electronic means.
